3. The forex market is highly liquid. This means that there is always a tight dealing quote at which you can buy or sell active currencies.

4. Forex trading usually comes at you fast. Your trade will most often move into profit or hit a stop loss point very quickly.

5. Currencies usually trend one way for long time periods. It is not unusual for a currency to have a major trend in one direction for three to five years at a time. When you trade with the major trend this gives you a trading edge.

6. Transaction costs are low. Major currencies can be traded even by small traders at dealing spreads of two to three pips.

If there is one point above all others about learning to trade forex it is this one. Your chances of having a successful outcome to your trade are increased tremendously when you trade with the major trend. When you enter your trade on a reaction (correction) within the trend your odds of completing a successful trade increase even further.

For example, let’s say that you have identified the Euro as being in a major uptrend against the US Dollar. This is easy to do by looking at a long term chart of the Euro against the US Dollar. Instead of immediately rushing into the forex market and buying the Euro you wait until a correction takes place, as they often do, and you buy the Euro on a pullback to its long term trend line. This takes some patience and discipline to do but the payoff can be huge.

As the major trend kicks in your Euro position is immediately in profit. Then you have the pleasant decision to make as to when to take your profit. Learning to trade forex can be broken down into a series of decisions like this. The key is careful analysis as to the direction of the trend and then waiting for a good entry point. Patience and discipline are the hallmarks of the most successful forex traders.

Childhood obesity – with half of children estimated to exercise for less than the recommended hour per day, regular daily exercise could help reduce obesity, keep children fit and help them avoid health problems later on in life. Road congestion – 20% of car trips during rush hour are attributed to the ‘school run’. The number of children driven to school has doubled in the last 20 years, and reducing traffic around schools will also make it safer for pupils. Pollution – the polar caps are melting and the race is on to reduce carbon emissions. Rising petrol prices also means reducing car trips will help with household bills. Self confidence – being responsible for getting themselves to school and navigating traffic will help boost pupils’ sense of independence and help them escape the cotton wool enclosure of being chauffeur driven everyday. Academic performance – many schools with cycling policies have reported that pupils are more alert in lessons. Studies in the US and UK have also found a direct link between regular exercise and academic performance.

A cycling policy would also be popular with pupils. In a recent survey of 11,000 pupils nearly half said they’d like to cycle to school if given the chance, whilst only 2% currently do so.

Funding is available

The government is fully aware of the advantages cycling can provide children as well as the need to get people out of their cars. The ‘Sustainable School’s Programme’ currently provides £7.5 million in funding every year for local authorities to implement cycling policies. A further £20 million/year is available from the ‘The Department for Children, Schools and Families’ in grants to assist schools to provide the facilities and infrastructure needed to encourage pupils to travel by leg power.

Sustrans (a sustainable transport charity) also received £10 million in funding to implement safe walking and cycling policies. Their ‘Bike It’ scheme has enjoyed remarkable success:  participating schools reported that cycling levels trebled within a year.

How can my school encourage pupils to cycle?

To get pupils out of cars and onto bikes, schools need to provide the facilities and framework for ensuring pupils cycle responsibly and that parents are happy that both their children and bikes will be safe.

Schools need to:

Educate pupils on cycling responsibly and safely. Provide cycle proficiency training. Set up a cycle permit agreement to clarify the school’s liability and the responsibilities of pupils. Parents and pupils would then both need to sign the permit in exchange for access to the school’s bike storage facilities. Facilities would need to be provided for the safe storage of bikes and equipment throughout the school day, such as secure cycle shelters, which offer protection from the weather, and secure lockers for storing bike lights, reflective clothing and tyre pumps.

So when you consider the number of benefits cycling can provide, its popularity with pupils and the government funding that’s available, the question isn’t ‘why you need a cycling policy’ but ‘when is your school going to start one?’

If you want to go somewhere else for a short term insurance policy, they will also not cover your medical costs pertaining to the accident as it will be considered a pre-existing condition. People with pre-existing conditions may find it difficult to get a short term health insurance. If they do get one, it would probably be more costly.

While short term health insurance may prove to be useful to many, there are some people who would prefer a general one. One reason is because, they may not know the exact time-frame they require the short term coverage. Furthermore, for those looking for a job, there is also no guarantee that their new employee will provide group medical plans.
